Commissioned for Help! My House is Falling Down (hosted by Sarah Beeny) by Red Television. Built to replicate a genuine problem house from an episode, this huge house was made to fall down and crack on demand (and not to be edible, hence the inclusion of fondant, although a lot of it was still very edible).
This project took huge amounts of planning and was designed under pressure with a very short time between commission and delivery. Grey maderia 'bricks' (necessary to look like concrete) built around an internal skeleton, 'cemented' with buttercream, sidewall complete with butter-cream 'pebble-dash' an iced gingerbread roof and chimney. An internal cavity allowed for the possibility of a balloon or ball to be inserted and gradually blown up to cause the collapse and cracking needed. This was one (very large) project where I was very glad of a degree in Product Design.
Thanks to Red Television for a great challenge and for being delightful to deal with throughout the entire process.
The clip of it's use will be available next year.
